We woke up on Saturday morning in Wilkes Barre, PA, (and yes, now we know how to pronounce it correctly) to this:
That was a bonus.
We had lots of company while we were there.
Then we found a State Park just north of Wilkes Barre called Frances Slocum State Park and decided that would be the perfect place to cook breakfast.
After a good breakfast and shower, we meandered our way northeast until finally we reached New York.
I had written on FB what road we were traveling on and then I get a text message from my Chattanooga (originally from York, PA) friend, Deb, saying that she is visiting family in the town that we were heading toward, Vestal/Endicott, NY. What a coincidence. We didn't get to see her, but we asked for recommendations for a place to eat, and she also recommended a place to see while passing through.
By now, the scenery is just getting better and we had to stop to take a pic at Whitney Point.
This next pic is for Sheila.
She knows why, lol.
We ended up in Utica for the night and I visited my first Bass Pro Shop. That place was pretty impressive. I know I could have gone in one of the 100's I have passed by in my lifetime, or even visited the one close to Chattanooga, but this is the one I decided to go to. From what I understand, they all are pretty much the same.
We also visited downtown before we hit the sack.
The next morning we got to experience Adirondack Park, as it is shown in our Atlas. This "park" takes up a large portion of Northern New York, and the fall colors are really showing out (it is the whole green area on the top portion of the map.
During our trek through the mountains, Anthony started singing a song that I don't think I have ever heard, Indian Lake. And sure enough, this is the lake to which that song refers.
While making our way through the Adirondacks, our final stop before Vermont was Ticonderoga, NY. You may recognize the name from looking at a pencil that you have in your pencil box.
This next picture is for Sherrie: (lol)
Yup, Geese!!
This schoolhouse caught our attention as it was out in the middle of nowhere, but is full of history:
Sunday night we found ourselves in Green Mountain National Forest on Forest Service Road 25, right outside Waitsfield, VT. It was the perfect spot to camp for the night:)
Just before dark, we saw a cyclist riding up another road. We stopped him to ask him if he knew about camping in the area, and he wasn't local. He had cycled from Oregon and was on his way to Bar Harbor, ME. Yes, you read right. He was by himself and had a ways to go before he reached his destination. I wish I had a picture. He kind of looked like Kevin Spacey.
Anyway, this morning we made our away to Waterbury where we decided to eat breakfast at a restaurant as it was below 40 degrees outside with 25 mph winds.
And then we made our way to the Ben & Jerry's Factory and took the tour.
And we found the Green Mountain Coffee visitor's Center.
Our next town we went through was Stowe, VT. Descendants of the Von Trapp family live here, and I can see why. It is surrounded by so much beauty, and the town was really cute.
Anthony got excited when he saw on the map that we were close to Morrisville, VT. That may not mean anything to you, tho. But it is the headquarters for Concept2, the maker of his indoor rowing machine. Sometimes he even takes his rowing machine on vacation with us, lol. So we got his picture there and went in and talked with a fella that works there and picked us up a little souvenir.
I love it when we are driving down the road and see something interesting. We have done that a lot since we are taking back roads.
And I have been fascinated by all these HHUUGGEE beautiful barns.
Today finds us in Lancaster, New Hampshire, which is right on the border of VT, and it took SEVEN days to get here. Only those who knows Anthony's driving can really appreciate this. He might be faster on his bicycle, lol.
Hopefully tonight we will be in Maine. I thought that two nights ago, though. He says, but Hey, who's in a hurry??!!??
Oh wow! Ticonderoga pencils are my favorite. I hoard them for when the boys have to take tests. And Green Mountain Coffee is what I buy for my Keurig. Yum! We have a Utica here in Mississippi, but trust me, you wouldn't want to visit! Ha! Love all your awesome pictures.
